A Review of Breaking Dawn Part 2

-I divided this review into two parts. The first part doesn’t have any spoilers. The second does.-

I didn’t have high hopes for this film.

I was strongly against Summit making Breaking Dawn two films. In my opinion, there just isn’t enough content in the book to deserve two films.

I think I was right.

You see… Breaking Dawn Part 1, felt long. It felt really stretched out. Because it was. Part 2 also felt stretched.

The CGI wasn’t all the good either. I was shocked at who horrible Reneesme looked in the beginning of the movie as a baby. Once she got older, and they started using real people, it was much better. Also… was it just my theatre, or was it that whenever they moved the camera, it got really blurry. It almost looked like they were shooting it on an old iPod Touch when they moved the camera from left-right (and vice versa). Honestly… I’ve seen some pretty bad cinematography, but you honestly cannot tell me that no one noticed that during post-production. Really? That is just embarrassing.

Also, the teleporting- I mean fast running- from one spot to another, looked so fake. The noise they added on to it… it just made it seem like a cheap Disney TV Show.

Nothing was particularly good regarding the acting, either.

The ending was shocking. I couldn’t believe what was going on. It was ingenious, and well done. I was surprised with how well the Twilight fandom kept it a secret. I went to the film a week after it had been released, and I had no idea!

Overall, I’m going to giver Breaking Dawn Part 2 a 3/5 for being better than the original Twilight movie.

SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT. Continue reading

Catching Fire should be split into two movies

Kyle Stewart’s Opinion on why Catching Fire should get two movies instead of one.

[SPOILERS AHEAD] Lionsgate has said that the incredibly successful (thus far) Hunger Games Franchise will have not three, but four movies. This means that one book will get two movies, as there are three books in the trilogy.

Many fans believe that Lionsgate will follow in the steps of Harry Potter and Twilight, a and split the final film.

I hope that they don’t split Mockingjay in half.

This is why… Firstly, where in the world are you going to end Mockingjay Part 1? You could maybe get away with ending as District 13 is being bombed, and you would get a cliffhanger (Does Prim make it back?).

Meanwhile for Catching Fire, it already is practically split in half… Pre-Hunger Games and Hunger Games. Both halves would make great movies. Both have a fair amount of Action as well, which is vital for each Hunger Games film to be successful.

Gary Ross, the director of The Hunger Games, is currently in negotiations to continue as director for Catching Fire. I think that it would be interesting to have the same director, with the same vision, direct each movie in the trilogy, unlike what happened with Twilight and Harry Potter.

Catching Fire is my favorite book in The Hunger Games series, and I have a ‘high bar’ set for Lionsgate to make a fantastic film, as they did with The Hunger Games. I think that Catching Fire should have two movies, not Mockingjay.

Catching Fire is starting filming in September 2012, as we previously reported. And, Lionsgate already has a release date set for the movie, November 22nd, 2013.

With all that time… they had better do it right.

Merger of Summit and Lionsgate?

Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate could possibly merge. (Image Via Cinema Blend)

Well, we cover The Hunger Games from Lionsgate, and we sometimes cover Twilight from Summit.

Today, they are different companies.

Bloomberg says that, well, that could change:

The companies have resumed discussions that broke down in the past over price and control issues, said the people, who declined to speak publicly because talks are private and there’s no assurance a deal will be reached.

Lions Gate would gain access to the cash generated by the five “Twilight” movies. The first four films have grossed more than $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales, according to Box Office Mojo. A sale would be a payday for owners of closely held Summit who formed the studio in 2007 with funding from Merrill Lynch & Co.

Summit, based in Santa Monica, California, is scheduled to release the fifth “Twilight” movie in a year. Lions Gate has about $550 million in short- and long-term debt, according to Bloomberg data, and has struggled to remain profitable.

Melissa Zukerman, a spokeswoman for Summit, declined to comment. Peter Wilkes, a Lions Gate spokesman, didn’t immediately respond to phone and e-mail requests for comment.

Lions Gate, also run from Santa Monica, California, produces cable TV’s “Mad Men” series and in March will release “The Hunger Games,” a film based on a young-adult book trilogy that has been compared to the “Twilight” novels.

“The Hunger Games” and three potential sequels may generate $220 million to $733 million in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization over the next several years, according to James Marsh, an analyst at Piper Jaffray & Co. in New York.

Would you be okay with the Vampire-bitten Summit to merge with Lionsgate? It could definitely help The Hunger Games reach the $100 million it needs to make in Box Office in the US for sequels (… Catching Fire, Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2).

Magnae Famae will certainly update you on this possible deal as it progresses.

Breaking Dawn Director releases Part 2 running time

(Via Breaking Dawn- The Movie)

Bill Condon, the director of Breaking Dawn Part 1 and Part 2 has released the running time for Breaking Dawn Part 2.

112 minutes.

Breaking Dawn Part 1 ran for 117 minutes so this will put the total to 229 minutes for both movies. Hypable put together a list of all the Twilight movies’ running times.

  •  Twilight: 120 minutes
  •  New Moon: 130 minutes
  •  Eclipse: 124 minutes
  •  Breaking Dawn – Part 1: 117 minutes
  •  Breaking Dawn – Part 2: 112 minutes

This will be the shortest Twilight film in the saga. Condon also stated that the movie was 2 hours and 14 minutes in an earlier cut, so they must have cut 20 minutes off from the film. Could that mean 20(+) minutes of deleted scenes?  What do you think of the times?
