Prisoner of Azkaban coming to Pottermore on December 20!

B3C6M3_Animation_01SM_cropped (1)The Pottermore Insider has confirmed that Pottermore users will get to read the first few chapters of Prisoner of Azkaban, the third book in the Harry Potter series, on December 20th, 2012.

They also released a still, which can be seen on the right from one of the chapters we will get to explore. This particular one is of Harry, Hermione, and Ron at their first Care of Magical Creatures class with Hagrid.

The Insider also reminds us Pottermore users to make sure that we have all of the supplies from of second-year school list in order to gain access.

As Pottermore picks up speed with their releases (Prisoner of Azkaban is here only two months after releasing Chamber of Secrets), maybe we can hope for Deathly Hallows before 2020! What book are you most looking forward to from Pottermore? Leave a comment below.

Pottermore CEO talks about final chapters of ‘Chamber of Secrets’

Pottermore has been full of secrets lately, but they finally let slip when Chamber of Secrets’ final chapters would be released online.

We can expect them by the end of the month, he said.

Charlie Redmayne also spoke about the Digital Pottermore, and their plans for the future.

“Most publishers see digital publishing as creating e-books or, perhaps, enhanced e-books, but Pottermore looked at every single platform—e-books, browser-based experiences, social network, apps, game consoles, in-flight entertainment, YouTube, and educational platforms—to see if and how it could work for our brand,” said Redmayne. “Publishers have often thought that filmmakers or gaming companies have the rights to the more valuable properties, but we have the rights to the stories and that has immense value.”

-Charlie Redmayne; CEO of Pottermore

Apps? Count me in!

Along with all of this, he also announced that they are working on a “Games hub,” to get the users coming back. That is a big problem with Pottermore right now. They are getting a lot of one-time hits. People come, go through the chapters, read the J.K. Rowling content, and leave. They don’t come back until they hear on Magnae Famae that more chapters have been released.

How long until Deathly Hallows? Any guesses?

The next Pottermore House Cup will be given away in…

The Pottermore Insider has made another surprise announcement to continue to remind us that Pottermore still exists!

Today they announced that the next Pottermore House Cup will be given away to a lucky house in November 2012, with a new prize. It seems that Pottermore still hasn’t decided what this prize will be, as they suggest to give ideas on their Facebook and Twitter accounts.

The last House Cup was awarded to Slytherin. They won early access to the first two chapters of Chamber of Secrets. I say that we all suggest early access to Prisoner of Azkaban in it’s entirety.

What do you think the prize should be? (Let’s go Ravenclaw!)

Pottermore: What to expect in Chamber of Secrets Chapter 8

The Pottermore Insider has released more information on upcoming chapters in Chamber of Secrets. Chapter Eight: The Deathday Party involves Harry, Ron and Hermione being invited, and attending Headless Nick’s Deathday Party (as you may know from reading the Harry Potter books).

In Chapter Eight, we will get to unlock content from J.K. Rowling on Peeves (the poltergeist who never made the movies).

No release date has been announced… stay tuned to Magnae Famae for more Pottermore news.

- A game to remove the gnomes from the Weasley’s garden.
- New material from J.K. Rowling about the Malfoy family.

Pottermore’s CTO is saying that Chamber of Secrets will be ready this summer

Microsoft released a report on Pottermore’s server platform, which is Windows Azure, but they also gave some information from Pottermore’s Chief Technical Officer, Julian Thomas., on Pottermore’s Chamber of Secrets book, and it’s time frame.

Still, “we found when we opened up to the world that the architecture wasn’t enough to accommodate the massive demand,” said Julian Thomas, Pottermore’s chief technical officer.

When the beta version launched, and hundreds of thousands of people wanted in — especially at peak times such as when new content was added — some of the rich features had to be turned off in order to keep the website working, Thomas said.

Thomas anticipates more such peaks occurring when new content is added: Such as when content for the second book in the series, “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” launches. Thomas did not give a specific date for that but said it would be sometime this summer.

Pottermore.com will also be translated into more languages, including “some Far Eastern languages that will be announced shortly,” he said, and Pottermore will also appear on more mobile devices in all sorts of forms. One example: The just-announced “Book of Spells,” a partnership between Rowling and Sony in which users can learn about spells in the Harry Potter books via Sony’s PlayStation 3 Move.
