London 2012 link to be removed from MF header

The title says it all. On August 27th, we will be removing the London 2012 category link from the header.

The link however will always work (here’s the link!). However, when we begin our Sochi 2014 coverage, the category will be renamed to simply Olympics, if the link stops working replace london-2012-olympics with olympics at the end of the link.

Thanks so much for following our London 2012 coverage. It was very exciting, and Magnae Famae had amazing stats every single day of the games.

Olympic Gold!

Canada’s first gold: Women’s trampoline

It took until Day 8 at Beijing 2008 for Canada to win a medal, at London 2012 it took until Day 8 for Canada to win a gold (which is Canada’s eighth medal). Thanks to Rosie MacLennan of Women’s Trampoline, Canada has that gold.

MacLennan, 23, is from King City, Ontario, she surprising beat Beijing 2008 gold medalist He Wenna of China to the title. He Wenna (who was expected to win gold) tumbled at the end of her routine, likely being the cause of her winning bronze. Shanshan Huang of China won silver.

MacLennan’s teammate, Karen Cockburn placed fourth, and for the first time in her Olympic career (which spans four Olympic Games), she will be leaving without a medal.

You can watch Rosie’s routine here.

And there it is, Day 8 and Canada has its first gold! What do you think of the accomplishment?

Canada’s first silver: Men’s eight rowing

After having a day full of bronze medals (July 31st), Canada is finally moving up, starting the day with a silver in men’s eight rowing. All though Canada had a gold medal to defend in the Olympic men’s eight rowing, a silver seems fine to many Canadians, after so many Bronze.

“After all we’ve been through here (having a poor first race and being forced into repechage), this was special,” said Byrnes, who was a member of the Beijing crew. “We knew if we stayed close to the Germans, we could battle with the Brits and Aussies for second. It’s a great feeling.”

Jerry Brown admitted that “this is the greatest moment of my life”. Canada lost to Germany, but defeated Great Britain, the United States, the Netherlands, and Australia, who finished in that order. Germany crossed the line at 5:48.75, while Canada crossed at 5:49.98.

What do you think of Canada’s medal count thus far? Leave a comment below.

London 2012: opening ceremony score sells 10,000 copies

Image via the Associated Press

The fantastic score for the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics went on sale, after the ceremony finished airing. It has already sold over 10,000 copies.

It was the number one album on iTunes in the United Kingdom, Spain, France and Belgium, and is number five in the United States. It was number two most popular digital download on Amazon.

The opening ceremony, and it’s score were fantastic, in my opinion. I have high hopes for the closing ceremony as well. What do you think of the score?

Need To Know’s At The 2012 Olympic Games… So Far

After a glorious opening ceremony and torch lighting for the 2012 London Olympic Games, much has emerged in the first two days. A rather new and interesting event that is under investigation by the Olympic Committee is the rows of empty seats that were supposedly given to various members of corporate sponsors who did not show. The Olympic Committee gave the seats to other various spectators during Day 2 of events.  Medal counts are also in the eyes and minds of many. China has the lead with medal count with 12 in total, 6 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze. Followed by the United States with 11 in total, 3 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze. Although its only the second day of competitions, there are 9 different nations tied for 22nd and 5 tied for 17th. These standings will obviously change over time. Also in the spotlight are the few Olympians who were already disqualified for testing positive for drug tests. Amongst many nationalities, most of these athletes were sent back to their respective countries. Much more is expected to occur in the coming days, triumphs, defeats, and much more.
