Liam Hemsworth is sad about Gary Ross leaving The Hunger Games

Image via NY Daily News

Liam Hemsworth (who plays Gale in The Hunger Games), spoke to E! Online about Gary Ross leaving The Hunger Games, due to time restraints.

“The last I heard the new director (Lawrence) had just come on, so that’s really cool,” the Aussie actor told us this weekend at City Year’s second annual Spring Break event. “I’m excited about that. I think we shoot the last few months of this year.”

Not that Hemsworth is happy to see Ross go.

“I’m really sad to see that Gary’s not going to be part of the second one,” he said. “He did such an amazing job on the first.”

But don’t get too worried. Hemsworth said, “I think that there’s still so many people a part of it that want the film to be great and care about it so much that they’re not going to bring the wrong person on.”

Much of the cast seems to be commenting on Gary Ross leaving.I think it would have been wonderful to have One Vision for the entire series, but it appears we will have at least two, with Francis Lawrence stepping in.

“I’ve never heard someone sound more dejected” -Josh Hutcherson

Josh Hutcherson (Peeta, in the Hunger Games) has been interviewed by Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming Catching Fire film, which will be directed by Francis Lawrence, not Gary Ross, who directed The Hunger Games. Hutcherson spoke to EW at a White House Correspondent’s Dinner.

“I called him and I was like ‘Gary what’s up? What’s happening? Tell me it’s not the truth,” said Hutcherson. “I’ve never heard someone sound more dejected on the phone than he was. He was so sad he can’t be doing it.”

Though Hutcherson said he was “sad about Gary not being there,” he explained he’s eager to start shooting Catching Fire and looks forward to working with new director Francis Lawrence, whom he referred to as “extremely talented.”

“I think we’re going to make a good movie nevertheless and I’m excited to see what Francis brings to the table,” said Hutcherson.

I feel bad for Gary Ross, he must have been really looking forward to directing Catching Fire. What are your thoughts on Ross leaving the franchise?

The Hunger Games pulls in $600 Million worldwide

Defeating some of the highest of the critics’ guesses, The Hunger Games pulls in a stunning $600 Million in Box Offices worldwide.

As of April 29th, it has pulled in a stunning $609.995 million. Well deserved, if you ask me.

In the USA it pulled in over half of the worldwide Box Office sales, with $372.42 Million, and internationally it has pulled in $228.50 Million.

A job well done! It is the 68th most successful film of all time.

Official: Gary Ross says he will NOT direct Catching Fire

Gary Ross, director of The Hunger Games, announced that he will not direct the sequel to the Blockbuster film. (Image via The Hollywood Reporter)

We have some sad (or maybe for some of you… Happy) news to share. Gary Ross has gone out and said that he will not be directing Catching Fire. He announced this after meeting with Lionsgate yesterday.

Despite recent speculation in the media, and after difficult but sincere consideration, I have decided not to direct Catching Fire. As a writer and a director, I simply don’t have the time I need to write and prep the movie I would have wanted to make because of the fixed and tight production schedule.

I loved making The Hunger Games – it was the happiest experience of my professional life. Lionsgate was supportive of me in a manner that few directors ever experience in a franchise: they empowered me to make the film I wanted to make and backed the movie in a way that requires no explanation beyond the remarkable results. And contrary to what has been reported, negotiations with Lionsgate have not been problematic. They have also been very understanding of me through this difficult decision.

I also cannot say enough about the people I worked with: Producer Nina Jacobson, a great collaborator and a true friend; the brilliant Suzanne Collins, who entrusted us with her most amazing and important story; the gifted and remarkable Jennifer Lawrence whose performance exceeded my wildest expectations, and the rest of the incredible cast, whom I am proud to call my friends.

To the fans I want to say thank you for your support your faith, your enthusiasm and your trust. Hard as this may be to understand I am trying to keep that trust with you. Thank you all. It’s been a wonderful experience.

-Gary Ross

Lionsgate has also issued a small statement as well. All though they seem to be calm about Ross not directing the movie, a Lionsgate insider says that Lionsgate was expecting the news to break any day now.

We’re very sorry that Gary Ross has chosen not to direct Catching Fire. We were really looking forward to making the movie with him. He did an incredible job on the first film and we are grateful for his work. This will not be the end of our relationship, as we consider Ross to be part of the Lionsgate family and look forward to working with him in the future.

-Lionsgate

Some of the cast of The Hunger Games have given some thoughts on Ross not directing the sequel.

“One thing about Gary is, he can do everyone’s job better than you can,” Ludwig told E!. “It’s an honor working with such a talented director. He is an unbelievable guy and an actor’s director, which is amazing…. Nobody could really do what Gary did. I honestly believe that 100 percent.”

-Alexander Ludwig (Cato) via E! Online

“That makes me so sad,” she said. “I’m sorry, I can’t move on yet. I’m still in mourning. I don’t know that anyone else could bring it to life the way that he did.”

-Jacqueline Emerson (Foxface)

Dayo Okeniyi, who played Thresh, gave some suggestions on who could possibly direct the sequel.

“I’d like to see a David Fincher Catching Fire or Darren Aronofsky,” he said. “I think he’d be amazing for the second movie. Be a little bit edgier, darker.”

WHo do you think should direct Catching Fire?

The Hunger Games in Review

Kyle Stewart reviews The Hunger Games movie. [MAJOR SPOILER ALERT]

AN ARTICLE BY KYLE STEWART FOR MAGNAE FAMAE IN REVIEW-  The highly anticipated Hunger Games film was released on March 23rd, 2012. I bought my tickets two weeks prior in order to be able to see the movie without any worry of the show being sold out!

The film was amazing. Simply stunning. I applaud Lionsgate for making such an amazing movie, and adaptation of the bestselling book of the same name by Suzanne Collins.

The visual effects were great in some areas, but bad in others. The CGI created Capitol City was fine, but the ‘mutts’ as they are called in the books (moviegoers will recognize them as dogs), were created very well. Also the Control Room of The Hunger Games was extremely interesting, and the images were animated well as well.

A part that I was disappointed with was the Audience, which looked almost completely fake besides the first few rows. Also the fire for Peeta and Katniss’ costumes during the Tribute Parade was badly done as well. It looked very fake.

The acting was some of the best acting I have ever seen on the screen, ever. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth all did a great job. Also all of the other actors did extremely well. Some performances that really stick out would be from Donald Sutherland, Elizabeth Banks, Wes Bentley and Stanley Tucci.

Some added scenes included the uprising in District 11 after Rue dies. This scene was very well done, and the visual effects were mind-blowing. Also, the Control Room scenes were extremely interesting. We could watch as the Gamemakers made the forest go on fire, and even create the ‘mutts’.

The Hunger Games seems as though it will be nominated for best make-up. The Make-up design for people in The Capitol was great.

I would give this movie a 4.5/5. I would recommend this movie for people 12+. The best age group for this movie would be 12-30, stereo typically.

The Hunger Games is truly a great movie!

The Wizarding World of Hollywood to begin Construction this summer, opening announced

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter coming to Universal Hollywood has been the biggest piece of Harry Potter news we’ve had since Pottermore. And today we’ve been given a little bit more information.

We shouldn’t expect to see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter open in Hollywood until 2015. The first phases of construction work for the project (or demolition to make room) are expected to begin before the end of Summer 2012 however.

-Screamscape

So now we know that they plan to start construction this summer and not to expect an opening until the end of summer 2015… but 2015 seems so far away!

Say Hello to The Wizarding World of Universal Los Angeles!

Universal has made the official announcement today that they will be opening another Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but in Los Angeles (Not London or India, or as I hoped, Toronto).

Below is the official press release from Universal Parks and Resorts and Warner Bros:

Hollywood, CA (Dec. 6, 2011) – Warner Bros. Entertainment and Universal Parks and Resorts today announced a partnership to bring The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – the enormously popular themed entertainment environment which debuted in Orlando in June 2010 – to Universal Studios Hollywood.

The two companies also announced their plans to significantly expand The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood will be as impressive as what has been created in Orlando – and is expected to transform tourism in Los Angeles for decades to come. It will be a fully immersive environment for the entire family that brings the stories of Harry Potter to life and is faithful to the visual landscape of the

films, including a majestic Hogwarts castle to serve as the centerpiece of the themed environment. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood will be created with the same commitment to authenticity and the same level of talent and resources as its Orlando counterpart.

“I am delighted that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has been so popular with fans since the opening in Orlando last year and I am sure that the teams at Universal and Warner Bros. will bring their expertise and attention to detail to Hollywood to make this new experience equally as exciting,” said J.K. Rowling.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort opened in June 2010 and immediately captured global attention. It is a spectacularly themed land that includes Hogwarts castle, Hogsmeade and multiple themed attractions. Specific details of its expansion will be announced over time. Continue reading
