Confirmed: Hogwarts Library Box Set is just a reprint

Bloomsbury has confirmed that the Hogwarts Library Box Set is simply a reprinted edition of The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages.

Below is the photo released by their official Twitter account.

Bloomsbury to publish “Hogwarts Library Box Set” and J.K. Rowling updates us on the Encyclopedia

Harry Potter Publisher, Bloomsbury, is reporting to Reuters that they have plans to publish a Hogwarts Library Box Set, by J.K. Rowling.

Bloomsbury, the publisher of the “Harry Potter” series by author JK Rowling, also said it was counting on a new Rowling three-book box set tied into the Potter series, and a non-fiction account of spies in World War II to support sales in the coming year.

Theories are suggesting that this box set could simply be a republishing of Tales of Beedle the Bard, Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. This would be slightly disappointing, if you were to ask me. I also don’t see how this would help sales all that much.

Also, about a month ago, we found out that J.K. Rowling was working on a Harry Potter Encyclopedia. Today we found out that this is incorrect.

What about the Harry Potter Encyclopaedia?

Updated May 2012
I have been enjoying sharing information about Harry’s world on Pottermore for free, and don’t have any firm plans to publish it in book form.

Facebook Stock Priced at $38

Facebook is set to open on the Nasdaq tomorrow at $100 Billion (Image via The Verge)

In November, The Wall Street Journal reported that Facebook has submitted a $100 Billion I.P.O. (Intial Public Offering). Today it has been confirmed that 421, 233, 615 shares of Facebook will be priced at $38 a share. That would value Facebook at $104.12 billion. Facebook is expected to raise ver $16 Billion by going public.

All though it appeared that Facebook would’t hit it’s target of $100 Billion, it obviously has.

Facebook will be opening on the Nasdaq tomorrow as what else but “FB”.

Facebook wants you to pay to promote your own posts

The new Facebook Highlight (Image via The Verge)

Highlight. It’s a new feature from Facebook, that will allow people to pay to promote their own posts. This would be the first time that Facebook would try to monetize from the average person’s post.

“We’re constantly testing new features across the site. This particular test is simply to gauge people’s interest in this method of sharing with their friends.”

-Mia Garlick, Facebook Spokeswoman via Stuff

Garlick also added that Facebook is testing many different price points. All the way down to paying nothing. You may recognize this feature from Tumblr, where you can pay to promote your own blog posts.

The iPad Mini- Rumors and more!

Could a iPad Mini be ready for 2012 Q3?(Image via Daps)

Could Apple possibly be making a iPad Mini?

The Rumors say yes.

Rumors have been flying around about a iPad Mini, priced around $250-$300 for quite some time.

Analysts are also suggesting that the new miniscule iPad could be “in the pipeline”

“Our global research team still sees some evidence of this product in the supply chain — and we wouldn’t be surprised if it wound up in the iPod Touch category if it indeed sees daylight,”

-Ben Reitzes, Analyst

The iPad Mini would be about 7 inches, and would obviously run iOS. It would also continue with the iPad 3′s retina display.

Some Analysts are suggesting that the iPad MIni could be priced at $200, with only 8GB of storage, which would have the same starting storage point as the iPod Touch. The iPad currently starts off with 16GB. This would mean it would compete directly with the iPod Touch, possibly even killing it.

In a PriceGrabber survey, one in every two people would want a iPad Mini. PriceGrabber asked that if there was a 7 inch iPad Mini between $249 and $300, an astonishing 52% said they would buy it.

A Chinese organization stated that the iPad Mini would be available in the third quarter of 2012. They also said that 6 million units would be ready in time for the launch date.

Image via Mary Jo Foley

If you have plans to buy a Windows 7 PC, even though Windows 8 is coming out in the fall, feel free. It will only cost you $14.99.

Mary Jo Foley reports that every time a new version of Windows is announced, people who buy a PC running the latest version will get the new version for a discounted price. This is so that sales don’t slow down with Windows 7 while we wait for Windows 8.

Sources of Paul Thurrott say that people buying PCs after June 2nd will not be getting Windows 8 for free, but will be charged $14.99. All though that is a discounted price, it will be for the Windows 8 Pro version.

Indian State To Let Forest Guards Shoot Poachers On Sight

As shocking as it may seem, the government of a West Indian State has legalized forest patrol guards to kill illegal poachers on-sight. The Government  of Maharashtra legalized this to promote the protection of wildlife in the region, which is under heavy affect by poachers. Poaching in the area has gotten so severe, that more tigers have been shot in the area so far this year than of all last year. At its current position, India preserves at least half of all tigers worldwide which in

statistical terms is a lot; citing the fact that the world tiger population is about 3500. For Tigers, this is a rather great relief. However, for Poachers, this is a great warning to heed and also a great impact towards the Asian Black Market. There is the worrying fact though, that as of this day, there are rare encounters between poachers and forest reserve guards. In response to this, the Indian government  has offered informants (legal and illegal) 5 million Rupees ($90 000 CAD) to come forward with any information regarding any kind of poaching. The local and federal Indian Government hope that this will have “good results in the near future” and “will improve attention towards the appreciation and protection of the tiger”. Some people of India think that this can be a rather cruel method of dealing with poachers. Most however think its going to be necessary to cope with the ongoing problem with dealing with illegal poachers.

Queen Elizabeth names Puppies after Harry Potter characters

MSN New Zealand is reporting that Queen Elizabeth II has named her latest litter of puppies after various Harry Potter characters.

The 86-year-old monarch — an avid dog lover — has paid tribute to JK Rowling by naming a whole litter of Labrador puppies after the author’s popular children’s book series.  One pup in the litter is called “Gryffindor” after one of the founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but the names of the other dogs in the so-called “Harry Potter litter” are a mystery.

The Hunger Games DVD/Blu-Ray info leaked

The Digital Bits is reporting that The Hunger Games is going to be on DVD and Blu-Ray on August 18th, and tells us a tiny bit more on the release.

Retail sources are telling us to expect Lionsgate to release The Hunger Games on Blu-ray and DVD in the U.S. on 8/18. Expect an official announcement soon. There will be multiple SKUs and editions, including discs only, discs plus bonus swag and Target and Walmart retail exclusive versions as well. Expect several retailers to hold “Twilight like midnight release party” events around the country. Sounds like they’re going to make a pretty big deal out of this one.

More information on the DVD/Blu-Ray release will be published here, at Magnae Famae as it comes in.

Google Chrome is now the most used browser in the world

Image via The Verge

StatCounter is reporting that Google Chrome has finally surpassed Internet Explorer for a full week, for the first time in history.

[...] North America, where Internet Explorer still has the lead — 37 to 26 percent. So which regions are responsible for Chrome’s worldwide lead? In Europe, Chrome has been ahead of IE for the past two weeks, but only by a percentage point, and Firefox is ahead of both. Also, IE has a massive lead over second-place Chrome in Oceania, and Firefox is dominating both IE and Chrome in Africa.

-via The Verge

In many parts of the world, Chrome is far from #1. Someday Chrome may dominate the market.

You may ask which browser this reporter is using…. It’s Google Chrome.
