London 2012 link to be removed from MF header

The title says it all. On August 27th, we will be removing the London 2012 category link from the header.

The link however will always work (here’s the link!). However, when we begin our Sochi 2014 coverage, the category will be renamed to simply Olympics, if the link stops working replace london-2012-olympics with olympics at the end of the link.

Thanks so much for following our London 2012 coverage. It was very exciting, and Magnae Famae had amazing stats every single day of the games.

For more site news, we have a site news page! We hope to update it more frequently in the future. For even more information, check out the Tripletech Ideas Development Blog.

We are looking for you! Come and join Magnae Famae at this exciting time! (Updated)

Magnae Famae wants more volunteer writers, as we continue to expand. We are looking for you to help us out!

We are looking for intelligent, talented volunteer writers to join our team. We are looking specifically for these positions:

*Updated on June 6th, 2012, to add an Olympic Coverage Team*

POP CULTURE WRITERS

We need some Pop Culture writers! Now, more specifically, you can choose what you want to cover.

  • The Hunger Games
  • Twilight
  • Entertainment
  • Celebs
  • etc…

It’s up to you, which you want to apply for.

To apply, email us at apply@magnaefamae.com, tell us about yourself, and come up with a Pop Culture/Entertainment article.

OPINION WRITERS

Opinions matter! They are great for sparking conversation, in the comments. So, we want a few writers to write about one article a week containing their opinion on a current event.

To apply, please email us at apply@magnaefamae.com and tell us about yourself, and include an opinion piece!

WORLD NEWS WRITERS

We really need some Political, Science, and Current Events writers here at Magnae Famae! You can write about anything, so long as it is appropriate for most audiences, and is news!

To apply, email us at apply@magnaefamae.com and tell us about yourself, and include a piece on a current event. For this position, your articles can be as long, or as short as they need to be, so long as they get the full story.

TECHNOLOGY WRITERS

Interested in Tech? iPads? TVs? Then maybe you should start writing about Technology. You can have a column about Apple or Microsoft, or even just report the daily news. This is wide open.

To apply, email us at apply@magnaefamae.com, tell us about yourself and include a tech piece.

EDITORS

We are going to need some editors, to proofread, and verify the facts. We really need trustworthy people here. Our editors will decide whether the article should be re-written, thrown out or published. Our editors (and only our editors) will have access to the big blue Publish button.

We really need a team of editors. Don’t worry, the work will be spread out equally between existing editors and new editors. We are also putting together a guide for our editors to use as well.

To apply, email us at apply@magnaefamae.com and tell us about yourself, and tell us about any experiences you have, and why you should be chosen (PROOFREAD!)

OLYMPIC COVERAGE TEAM

We are looking to start a temporary Olympic Coverage team of at least two people, but no more than seven people. The team would cover everything from sporting events, to the technology behind the games, to effect on the London economy. This truly is a topic that anyone can cover.

The team would be working from now until the end of August (to do reviews and such).

Here are some of the positions we would like to fill. (If you would be interested in doing multiple positions, that’s great!

  •  Ceremony Coverage Person
    • This person would be doing a live blog, interacting with other people outside of Magnae Famae
    • This person would be doing reviews of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies
  • Sport Coverage Team
    • This team will cover sports. Both live, and afterwards.
    • This team will do daily reviews of the day (providing scores and anything interesting that happens)
    • This team will cover the medal ceremonies.
More Positions will be added as we approach the games.
If you have an idea for a position, or would like to volunteer, email us today at apply@magnaefamae.com. Please tell us about yourself and any experiences you have.

THANKS

We can’t wait to go through those applications. Don’t forget to tell us which position you would like.

This is great work for resumes, and it’s a lot of fun! (People are really impressed when they find out you run a website).

If anyone came to mind while you were reading this, please forward this article to them!

Our ‘Sister Site’: Your FAQ officially launches today!

Your FAQ is the second project from Tripletech Ideas to actually make it out of beta.

But what is Your FAQ?

“Your FAQ (FAQ standing for Frequently Asked Questions), is a how-to, Q&A, Information and Tips/Tricks project. Your FAQ is a great source for information of all kinds. The project was founded on October 1st, 2012 by Austin MacPherson and Kyle Stewart.

Kyle Stewart tends to write about techy things for Your FAQ and Austin MacPherson has a successful column called How did that start?, mainly about World Affairs, as he puts it.

Your FAQ will also be a reliable source for trusted downloads. We test out each product that we recommend (Example: Google Chrome). We test it out and we often give it a rating. We will also give a trusted download link. Mainly free products will be posted.”

Even more questions are answered in this article, which is published at Your FAQ.

In case you didn’t realize, Austin MacPherson and Kyle Stewart are both authors here at Magnae Famae as well as Your FAQ.

We are very excited to have Your FAQ with us in the Tripletech Ideas universe! This project has been in the works for quite sometime.

But this isn’t it, project-wise for Tripletech Ideas. On March 2nd, 4 The Gleek, a news website made especially for Gleeks will be launched in beta. We also have a few more projects ‘up our sleeves’.

Enjoy Your FAQ!

Magnae Famae: A History

Today is the One-Year Anniversary of the Magnae Famae Project starting. The project was officially launched to the public on January 11th, 2011.

I started off 2011 by working on a Brand new project with Luc and Sophie Moulaison.  At first we called the project No.bilem, but then changed it to Magnae Famae thanks to the guidance of Jane Barter Moulaison. The project would be a news website and would replace the existing Kyle File Blog after Luc made this comment to me:

“…I also think I know one reason why The Kyle File isn’t succeeding very well. Maybe you should rename it. It’s kinda like Mark Zuckerburg calling Facebook “The Mark Book” or Steve Jobs calling the iPod the “The StevePod”. Maybe it isn’t working.”

So we thought of many names from Bookmark to iKnow…

  • MediaCentre
  • YourNewsSource
  • MEdia, Socialite, YourChoice, Webitis
  • Urweb, yourweb (later would help inspire the name yourfaq)
  • iTech, iMedia, iNews, iNow, iToday
  • InteractiveBuddy,Inyourhands, Coast2Coast

iReadr was not in use in the domain system, so we almost decided to call it that. Until, Sophie said that it sounded like something Apple would call a book thing. So we started making more suggestions, our inboxes receiving a hundred notifications every 3 minutes. I suggested that we use a latin word. So we did, and we came up with Nobilem. We went ahead with that name and everyone made a logo. As I said earlier, Jane told us that technically Nobilem didn’t make sense as a name and we should rethink or use Magnae Famae. We all agreed to use Magnae Famae. That day we also decided to call our vidcast The Key Panel.

We started the project on January 9th at 8:39PM.

Luc made the final logo that we would decide to use, and a slightly changed version is still being used today. He also created the mini icon with the m.f in it that we recently changed.

Working for Magnae Famae was a great honor and experience. I am no longer working for MF but I’m still a supporter. It has evolved a lot since we first started it, and it still continues to evolve. Care and Share!
