Leaked Catching Fire photos

AJC has reported that ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ will have parts filmed at a section of Clayton County’s International Park called ‘The Beach.’ It was originally constructed for the beach volleyball venue in the 1996 Olympics. They say that the water is going to be pumped out and refilled for the movie. This is assumed to be where the Cornucopia of the 75th Hunger Games is going to be.

This is a photo of the beach that has been reported as the Cornucopia.

This photo is said to be The Justice Building! Which district do you think it’s for? 12?

As you may or may not know, the actor who plays President Snow in The Hunger Games is Donald Sutherland and he’s back for the sequel! This is a leaked photo on how he’s dressing for Catching Fire!

This are some photos on what we believe to be the set of the Victory Ball which takes place before the Victory Tour moves on the District 12!

There are lots of photos of the cast on set, I just have a few here, if you’d like more, click here.

The Hunger Games’ lead actress, Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss), spoke out about the Mockingjay movie split at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Lawrence said that she was hesitant until she heard about how much money she would be paid [jokingly];

“You want everything in there, but you don’t have enough room, and you’re trying to decide what’s going to get cut and what isn’t. So it was a relief on the last one to know that we don’t really have to cut anything. We have enough time, we have enough room to really tell this story to the fullest, and we don’t need to cut anything. So it was a relief on the last one to know that we don’t really have to cut anything. The final film in the Hunger Games trilogy will be split into two parts, with a year between each part. However, we still need to wait over a year until Catching Fire (the second film in the series), which premieres on November 22nd, 2013. Mockingjay Part 1 will be premiered on November 21st, 2014; Part 2 on November 20th,2015.

Donald Sutherland’s email to Gary Ross regarding President Snow

If you watched The Making of The Hunger Games documentary, you know that Donald Sutherland wrote an email to Gary Ross, analysing President Snow, and asking for the role. The email was rather extensive, but very well written.

The email has been released to the public eye, and can be read below.

Dear Gary Ross:

Power. That’s what this is about? Yes? Power and the forces that are manipulated by the powerful men and bureaucracies trying to maintain control and possession of that power?

Power perpetrates war and oppression to maintain itself until it finally topples over with the bureaucratic weight of itself and sinks into the pages of history (except in Texas), leaving lessons that need to be learned unlearned.

Power corrupts, and, in many cases, absolute power makes you really horny. Clinton, Chirac, Mao, Mitterrand.

Not so, I think, with Coriolanus Snow. His obsession, his passion, is his rose garden. There’s a rose named Sterling Silver that’s lilac in colour with the most extraordinarily powerful fragrance – incredibly beautiful – I loved it in the seventies when it first appeared. They’ve made a lot of off shoots of it since then.

I didn’t want to write to you until I’d read the trilogy and now I have so: roses are of great importance. And Coriolanus’s [sic] eyes. And his smile. Those three elements are vibrant and vital in Snow. Everything else is, by and large, perfectly still and ruthlessly contained. What delight she [Katniss] gives him. He knows her so perfectly. Nothing, absolutely nothing, surprises him. He sees and understands everything. he was, quite probably, a brilliant man who’s succumbed to the siren song of power.

How will you dramatize the interior narrative running in Katniss’s head that describes and consistently updates her relationship with the President who is ubiquitous in her mind? With omniscient calm he knows her perfectly. She knows he does and she knows that he will go to any necessary end to maintain his power because she knows that he believes that she’s a real threat to his fragile hold on his control of that power. She’s more dangerous than Joan of Arc.

Her interior dialogue/monologue defines Snow. It’s that old theatrical turnip: you can’t ‘play’ a king, you need everybody else on stage saying to each other, and therefore to the audience, stuff like “There goes the King, isn’t he a piece of work, how evil, how lovely, how benevolent, how cruel, how brilliant he is!” The idea of him, the definition of him, the audience’s perception of him, is primarily instilled by the observations of others and once that idea is set, the audience’s view of the character is pretty much unyielding. And in Snow’s case, that definition, of course, comes from Katniss.

Evil looks like our understanding of the history of the men we’re looking at. It’s not what we see: it’s what we’ve been led to believe. Simple as that. Look at the face of Ted Bundy before you knew what he did and after you knew.

Snow doesn’t look evil to the people in Panem’s Capitol. Bundy didn’t look evil to those girls. My wife and I were driving through Colorado when he escaped from jail there. The car radio’s warning was constant. ‘Don’t pick up any young men. The escapee looks like the nicest young man imaginable’. Snow’s evil shows up in the form of the complacently confident threat that’s ever present in his eyes. His resolute stillness. Have you seen a film I did years ago? ‘The Eye of the Needle’. That fellow had some of what I’m looking for.

The woman who lived up the street from us in Brentwood came over to ask my wife a question when my wife was dropping the kids off at school. This woman and her husband had seen that movie the night before and what she wanted to know was how my wife could live with anyone who could play such an evil man. It made for an amusing dinner or two but part of my wife’s still wondering.

I’d love to speak with you whenever you have a chance so I can be on the same page with you.

They all end up the same way. Welcome to Florida, have a nice day!

Gary Ross (director of The Hunger Games), was impressed, and added scenes in President Snow’s Rose Garden to the film.

The Hunger Games is now available on DVD/Blu-Ray, and how The Hunger Games was taken by movie-goers and critics

The Hunger Games, based on the novel with the same-name, is now on DVD. Blu-Ray and online! The film received excellent reviews, and has been subject to huge hype in the entertainment world.

On it’s opening day it pulled in $67.3 million which set records in the worldwide box office. It’s opening weekend had a gross of $152.5 million. In North America it pulled in $407 million, and outside of North America it pulled in only $277 million. Here in North America, it was publicized like crazy, with ads and billboards around just about every corner. In places outside of N.A. the film was promoted poorly, many people saying that they might not have known about THG if they weren’t a big fan. Some people argue (perhaps correctly) that had Lionsgate done a better job of promoting the film in Europe, Asia, Australia etc, they may have reached the top 50 highest grossing films list.

The film did very well at pulling in people who hadn’t read the book.  It was also subject to huge controversy. All though it was widely praised for its use of feminism, it was still criticised heavily for the film’s use of killing (which is also present in the book), and unrealistic body image. At one point, movie-goers criticised the film for using an African-American actress (the character Rue, who was actually African-American  in the book as well as the film, unlike what critics suggest), which caused anger among fans for the racism of these people.

Lionsgate was criticised for casting Jennifer Lawrence as the lead actress “she did not appear to have the weight of a person suffering from starvation”.

Target, the popular American store will be selling this version of The Hunger Games on DVD/Blu-Ray.

Yes, this film has had it’s far share of criticism. But the story of the book (and film) is remarkable, and was done incredibly well by Suzanne Collins and Lionsgate respectively. And this has been recognized with many award nominations, and wins as well. Including from the MTV Movie Awards, Teen Choice Awards, Kids’ Choice Awards, and many more.

In 2013 a sequel to the controversial film will be released, called The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which will be based on the book named Catching Fire. Josh Hutcherson (Peeta) has a copy of the script for the film, which will be filming in Hawaii soon, and he had this to say.

“I do have a script in hand and it’s awesome. I love it so much,” Hutcherson confirmed, revealing that he met with newly installed director Francis Lawrence (“I Am Legend,” 2007, “Water for Elephants,” 2011) to discuss the film’s vision. “We talked about how important it was to really make the movie version of the book and that was Francis’s goal from day one — and the script definitely portrays that. It’s a very true-to-the-book rendition of the movie.”

-Josh Hutcherson via Yahoo! Movies

The sequel will be directed by Francis Lawrence (mentioned above), instead of Gary Ross who directed The Hunger Games. This is because Catching Fire will have an incredibly tight schedule, as Jennifer Lawrence will be working on X-Men in January 2013, allowing less than 5 months for shooting. Yes, this is going to be one rushed movie. However, it will have plenty of time for Post-Production, as it will not be in theatres until November 22, 2013.

The only question left for this film, is how successful will the sales be for DVD/Blu-Ray? The film will also be available on a wide variety of online platforms as well, including iTunes.

What did you think of the film? Do you think this film will be successful on DVD/Blu-Ray? Leave a comment below.

After Josh Hutcherson’s slip-up during the Teen Choice Awards, Lionsgate announced Jena Malone as Johanna in Catching Fire.  Malone was in Sucker Punch and Pride & Prejudice.
