Stunning Catching Fire posters released

Lionsgate has released two fantastic posters for Catching Fire, with the campaign ‘Victory Tour’. The futuristic photos are of Katniss and Peeta, celebrating their vicotry in the 74th Annual Hunger Games.

“PANEM ALERT: President Coriolanus Snow is pleased to announce this year’s Victory Tour, featuring Katniss Everdeen & Peeta Mellark – Victors of the 74th Hunger Games! The Capitol PN demands that all districts prepare accordingly. Inquire with your local district officials for further instructions.”

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss in The Hunger Games) spoke openly about Francis Lawrence, who will replace Gary Ross as director of the second film in The Hunger Games saga, Catching Fire.

“They’re almost polar opposites, and both are completely perfect for these movies. Francis is kind of genius at building different worlds and transporting you into another world. The vibe on set is much quieter. Gary is very energetic. Francis is very laid-back and very calm.”

Jennifer Lawrence spoke about a lot in the interview from dying her hair, to a story about a girl who came on set for the movie, thanks to the Make-A-Wish charity.

“On the first movie I met this girl, and I can’t tell this story without crying.” She hesitated. She was tearing up. “She had scars all over her body—burns—and she was telling me she was always so ashamed of the way she looked and she was so embarrassed, and now she has the nickname the Girl on Fire, but she loves it and wears it proudly. It gives her confidence. That was the first time in my entire career that I actually felt like there was a point in this. Not to sound rude, but it is stupid. Everybody’s like, ‘How can you remain with a level head?’ And I’m like, ‘Why would I ever get cocky? I’m not saving anybody’s life. There are doctors who save lives and firemen who run into burning buildings. I’m making movies. It’s stupid.’”

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire comes to theatres on November 23, 2013.

First look at Katniss and Finnick in Catching Fire (updated with Katniss and Gale photos)

Today, Entertainment Weekly released some first look images at Katniss and Finnick in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

UPDATE: Here are two photos of Gale and Katniss, also from EW.

”Jen and Liam have amazing chemistry,” says director Francis Lawrence of his young stars. ”They have a nice moment right before Katniss is reaped that is the very first thing we shot. And then when Gale has been brought in from the whipping, that’s another really nice moment they have alone.” ”This the book where you have to understand the pull Katniss feels to both Peeta and Gale,” said producer Nina Jacobson.

Danny Strong to write Mockingjay film

Lionsgate has hired Danny Strong (Game Change, The Butler and the upcoming film: The Lost Symbol) to write the script for Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2.

Variety is reporting the news about replacing Simon Beaufoy, who wrote Catching Fire’s script, which is currently filming in Hawaii and North Carolina.

Strong won an Emmy this year for HBO’s Game Change.

We are still 2 years away from the film’s release, with Part 1 being released on November 21, 2014 and Part 2 on November 20, 2015.

Woody Harleson, who plays Haymitch in the film series had this to say today about the split:

“Well, I think it could work. It really depends on how the scripts come in. I hate to comment on it before I know what it’s going to be. Obviously it’s possible that you can do it but how it’s going to turn out, I don’t know. I’m hopeful.”

-Woody Harleson

What do you think of Lionsgate’s decision?
