It took until Day 8 at Beijing 2008 for Canada to win a medal, at London 2012 it took until Day 8 for Canada to win a gold (which is Canada’s eighth medal). Thanks to Rosie MacLennan of Women’s Trampoline, Canada has that gold.

MacLennan, 23, is from King City, Ontario, she surprising beat Beijing 2008 gold medalist He Wenna of China to the title. He Wenna (who was expected to win gold) tumbled at the end of her routine, likely being the cause of her winning bronze. Shanshan Huang of China won silver.

MacLennan’s teammate, Karen Cockburn placed fourth, and for the first time in her Olympic career (which spans four Olympic Games), she will be leaving without a medal.

You can watch Rosie’s routine here.

And there it is, Day 8 and Canada has its first gold! What do you think of the accomplishment?
