We’re starting something big.

After two great years, Magnae Famae is coming to an end.

tbi-miniWe have come to the end of an era, regarding Magnae Famae. We decided to end Magnae Famae in favor of something even bigger.

Instead of just killing off Magnae Famae, we decided to start a completely new, and un-arguably better website, called The Beat Is…

On this new site, The Beat Is… Entertainment, Tech, and World News (similar to Magnae Famae). This new project, by Tripletech Ideas, has an infinitely better design, it’s more relaxed, and is way easier to find the headlines.

The Beat Is… is currently in beta, so expect some problems. If you notice any, please help us out and comment on this post.

Eventually Magnae Famae will redirect to The Beat Is… but for the time being, we will keep Magnae Famae open.

We already starting posting some new news stories, so, check it out at thebeatis.com!

The release date for the long-anticipated film, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters has been moved by 20th Century Fox.

The date has been moved up by about a week and a half from August 16 to August 7, 2013, which is a Wednesday. That leaves Percy Jackson to be released on a week with little competition. Unlike the competition that was presented from the movie, Kick-Ass 2 during August 16.

You can see the HD trailer for Sea of Monsters here.

What do you think about the movie thus far?

It’s an exciting trailer, that comes a long time after the release of the first Percy Jackson movie, and because of this, the fans may have forgotten. But so far, it appears to have gone the other way, with the fans continuing to wait for the release of ‘Sea of Monsters.

The film will be coming out in theatres in August 2013. Will you be seeing the movie?

Apple confirms password vulnerability, and that they are working on a fix

images (1)It was unveiled earlier today that there was a massive password vulnerability with Apple’s iForgot my Password option by the tech press.

The vulnerability allowed for one’s password to be reset simply by providing the email and date of birth of the account holder. Not something particularly difficult to find. In the mean time, Apple has closed down iForgot.

Apple released a statement to The Verge saying:

“Apple takes customer privacy very seriously. We are aware of this issue, and working on a fix.”

This is obviously a very serious issue, that will hopefully be resolved quickly for Apple account holders.

So… is there even a difference between the new Samsung Galaxy S4 and the previous S3?

img_kv_01_phoneThe new Samsung Galaxy S4 was unveiled this week in New York City at Radio City Music Hall. It is the successor to the wildly successful Galaxy S3, which has been flying off store shelves around the globe, with over 40 million units sold.

The S4 has been highly anticipated, but also highly “under-wraps”, meaning that Samsung did a great job at hiding what would be in their latest phone (until it leaked 24 hours before). They did better than any Apple launch.

The new S4 is thinner, lighter, and taller at 5 inches, allowing for more screen real estate, something vital in the app era. The S4 also has a 1080p (HD) Super AMOLED display.

First impressions from others say that the S4 continues to have the “plastic-y” feeling of the S3. Also, even though the phone is taller, “it still feels and looks the same [as the S3]“. This could be bad for Samsung because it means that consumers won’t be fooled as easily into thinking that this is the next big thing, when it looks the same as the previous model.

Other “improvements” include a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.9 Ghz processor (it’s fast), 2GB of RAM, and either 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of storage. The battery is improved as well, but the battery life is yet to be seen.

It also includes a 13 megapixel camera, essentially making the camera even better than the iPhone 5′s (based purely on megapixel count, which doesn’t always matter).

Many tech analysts are asking the question, “is it better enough?” At first glance, it appears to be about the same. This is a problem that all mobile companies are facing right now (except Blackberry, because they are still so far behind), it seems that they’ve hit the innovation barrier. Continue reading

White Smoke rises from the Sistine Chapel, showing that a Pope has been chosen

White Smoke has risen from the Sistine Chapel, signalling that the 115 cardinals have made a decision on who should lead them. The name of the new Pope shall not be revealed for a while yet, likely about an hour, when the new pope will step out onto the balcony of St. Peter’s Square.

The new Pope will also need to choose a new name. We will find out who the Pope will be within the hour.

220px-Card._Jorge_Bergoglio_SJ,_2008THE POPE: JORGE MARIO BERGOGLIO

Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina was chosen as the new leader of the Roman Catholic Church, he will furthermore be known as Pope Francis.

In the last conclave, he came in second to Pope Benedict. He was the Archbishop of Buenos Aires. He is 76 years old, about the age of Pope Benedict when he was elected.

He is the first non-European Pope.

Bells ring over the Holy See

As expected, bells are ringing over the Holy See. As the bells rings, crowds continue to gather, They are predicted to double, triple and quadruple as we wait for the Pope to walk out on to the balcony. He (however he is) is getting into his new “Pope wear”.

Gathered in a very cold and wet St. Peter’s Square, it is estimated that there are over 10,000 people. A fraction of the 1.2 billion members of the Roman Catholic Church.

Shortest conclave in 100 years

It has been pointed out time and time again, that no conclave has finished in under 5 days in over 100 years. Because of this, it was expected that this conclave would be no exception, because there was no clear front runner in this conclave. But, the conclave only had five votes over two days.

EDITOR’S NOTE: It has been pointed out by several, that this was not actually the shortest conclave in 100 years, but in 35 years. Our source for this fact was the CBC News Network, Magnae Famae regretfully did not double check this fact. Our apologies for any confusion this may have caused.
